Mitochondrion: Because not Everybody has Time to Drink Coffee in the Morning
Mitochondria are main energy sources within the cell. ATP is generated by extracting energy from sugars and fats with the help of oxygen. Four main components of a Mitochondrion include: Inner membrane, Outer membrane, Cristae, and the Matrix.
The outer membrane is smooth, but the inner membrane is folded, creating cristae. Cristae are covered in proteins and allows for chemical reactions to occur on their surface, thus cellular respiration occurs.
The matrix contains enzymes as well as mitochondrial DNA and ribosomes. Some stages of cellular respiration are catalyzed by the enzymes within the matrix.
Mitochondria cost less than a coffee, so get your energy kick for only $1.99 for five organelles!
